We have a structured Poetry Program in Stage 5 that encourages students to examine how language can be used in various forms to protest and persuade individuals to reflect on and reconsider their own values and those of the society in which they belong. Students explore and research a range of social issues and create texts that challenge and influence an authentic audience to consider their point of view. The skills they develop in this program include critical thinking, collaboration and creativity, which are vital to developing well-rounded learners and individuals. To enhance their study of poetry, we invite guest speakers and performers to share their stories and run workshops with our Year 10 cohort. Students are also given the opportunity to create and perform their own poetry at the BWSC Slam Competition held at the end of Term 3.

Brisbane Water Secondary College acknowledges that we learn, work and play on the lands of the Darkinjung people, the traditional custodians of these lands. We also pay respect to the wisdom of our Elders past and present and recognise their contribution to our people and community. We empower our youth who are our hope for a brighter and stronger future and who will be our future leaders.
